According to polls, gun sales are decreasing and less U.S. households have firearms. Yet, guns are still being manufactured at the same rates. If less households have guns where are these guns going?
No one is sure exactly what is causing the discrepancy between the polls and gun production there are two theories though:
1. The Same Amount of Guns are Being Sold, To Less Households. The people who already owned guns are purchasing more, while less new households are buying firearms. There may be something to this because many gun 
owners do buy more guns to add to their collection. And many hunters do need various models for different animals, for example they would not shoot a rabbit and deer with the same gun. Also as a new generation of hunters come of age, many people buy firearms for those children living in their home so that may account for some of these numbers. However the numbers would have to be very high to make up for all the additional gun purchases.

2. People Are Hesitant to Report Their Purchases in the Polls. Are the American households who are purchasing guns for the first time hesitant to admit they are? This fear could be do the the political atmosphere around gun

There is another theory that the guns are being sold, but to sources that need to remain discreet about mass gun purchases, such as branches of the government or local police, or worse overseas sources.
The theory is just that, and it is not scientifically based. Just musings of people who see the world around them. Whatever the reason for the difference in the polls and the manufacturers reports, purchasing a gun in New Mexico is straightforward.
